About Larkspur Elementary
Nestled among the trees in the Larkspur community, Larkspur Elementary offers students something increasingly rare: the close-knit feel of a small school paired with engaging academics and a campus designed to extend learning beyond the classroom.
Our students are known, supported and encouraged to be curious. Small class sizes help teachers build meaningful relationships with students and families, while our unique outdoor setting gives children opportunities to explore, investigate and connect what they are learning to the world around them.
Learning Rooted in the World Around Us
At Larkspur, our surroundings are part of the classroom.
Our environment-based approach to education uses the local community and natural environment as a context for learning across subjects. Students regularly participate in hands-on experiences both indoors and outdoors, giving them opportunities to ask questions, investigate ideas, solve problems and apply their learning in meaningful ways.
This approach goes beyond traditional environmental education. Students explore the connections between natural and human systems through interdisciplinary learning, community-based investigations, service learning and collaborative projects. The goal is simple: make learning relevant, engaging and connected to students' lives.
Our nine-acre campus makes that possible. Students have access to:
- Six outdoor classrooms
- Two outdoor gardens
- Four indoor aeroponic gardens
- A wetland
- A certified wildlife habitat
Students regularly spend time learning throughout the campus and may also venture into the surrounding Larkspur community to deepen concepts introduced in the classroom.
